Friend,
Today, as LA continues to burn, Trump takes office again. While there's a lot we don't know about the next four years, we do know this: Trump and his administration plan to undo and stall years of climate progress. They'll take the United States out of the global conversation on climate. They'll attack our clean air, water, and biodiversity laws. And they'll try to roll back the Inflation Reduction Act and California's own emissions reduction progress—the biggest climate actions in the world. |
California has the power and responsibility to continue moving climate progress forward in the absence of national leadership. We have the 5th largest economy in the world, are home to 12% of the United States population, generate 14% of the country’s revenue, and make up 10% of the representatives in Congress. California has a unique and outsized role at this moment to keep implementing and leading nationally and internationally.
As Californians, we have an opportunity to fight back. Our state needs to step up in global negotiations, create a wave of aggressive climate action with other states, and defend against Trump's attempts to roll back our environmental progress. And to do that, we need to support our state leaders to step up in every way that's required of us and trailblaze the next wave of bold, global climate action. Friend, we can't do it without your help.
Today, we're launching the California Defiance Alliance Fund to ensure our movement has the resources and power to fight the big fights and withstand attacks and blowback from the federal government. With this fund, we'll be able to create the conditions for California to remain a global leader for bold climate action. Will you be part of the California Defiance Alliance Fund and give our movement the resources to fight for climate justice?

While we prepare for the next four years, I want to take a moment to honor Martin Luther King Day and his fight for justice. As Dr. King powerfully stated, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Thank you for being part of this movement. It's not going to be easy, but I know that with hope, collaboration, and action we can create a climate-just future for all. Thanks for being here, Mary Creasman CEO of California Environmental Voters |
