John,
In a matter of minutes, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. This follows a nationwide political campaign directly targeting transgender and non-binary adults and children, the likes of which we have never seen before. He will join a Republican-led U.S. House, Senate, and Supreme Court that has already begun a comprehensive assault on trans rights.
This moment can feel hopeless – like all the odds are stacked against our community. The vitriol coming from the highest office in the country is deeply painful. An extremist right-wing government opens the floodgates for what seems like unchecked attacks on trans equality while some of the most powerful people in the world appear deferential to this new political order.
The fact of the matter is this - this fight is not over. When the Trump Administration rolls back the trans rights we’ve fought for, we will once again organize to defend those protections. Every time an anti-trans bill comes through Congress, we will be in those halls of power dispelling misinformation and engaging in smart federal advocacy. When the U.S. Supreme Court hears a case concerning the trans community, we will be leading the opposition. And not just at the federal level. As they attempt to roll back our rights and protections in cities and states, in companies and governments, in schools and prisons- A4TE will be there, no matter what.
