I know it is a difficult day for many of us as we prepare for a second Trump Administration. You may be filled with anxiety, dread or despair, and I get that. The next four years are going to be tough. There’s just no way around it, but it will also be full of important fights that require all of us to play a role.

I believe it’s important for leaders who care about democracy to not pretend like this is a normal day. It isn’t. Trump is seating his billionaire friends in front of his Cabinet. He’s reportedly going to issue scores of pardons to members of the violent mob that attacked the Capitol four years ago. He’s going to issue orders to grease the wheels to purge government of civil servants not personally loyal to him.

That’s not normal. I won’t pretend it is and you shouldn’t.

I’m prepared to hold Trump and his billionaire cronies accountable. I will not be silent when they try to hurt Connecticut or screw working families. I’m not afraid to speak truth to power.

The road will be difficult, and I cannot do it alone. I am going to need you with me every step of the way. So I’m asking you — especially today — to say you’re with me and make sure our movement has the resources to fight back.
