John, words can’t express how wrong it is that Donald Trump is being inaugurated on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Their world views couldn’t have less to do with each other – which means Trump’s view couldn’t have less to do with the America we should be striving for today.
I saw that America last year, when I was mobilizing young voters across the country. I saw it in Gen Z, in my constituents, and in all Americans: a country of ideals, built on Dr. King’s dream and the dreams of people who fought for progress before us.
That’s how I know that our country isn't one of hate or fear mongering, even if that’s what Donald Trump wants us to believe.
Our country is one of hope. But hope needs sustaining. It needs to be fought for. And Donald Trump is determined to make that fight damn expensive.
