Friend -

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and recommit to continuing his march forward by choosing democracy and justice over chaos and individualism.

Dr. King devoted his life to the pursuit of equality for all people, his mission rooted in his own deep faith and conviction that a new era of greater opportunity and equality in America was possible. In his pulpit, and in courthouses and at ballot boxes, he fought tirelessly to bring us closer to a more perfect Union, where our communities can come together regardless of race. Although the road is long in the pursuit of racial justice and equity for our Black community, Senate Democrats are committed to seeing it through.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities. In this constant struggle between hope and fear, kindness and cruelty, and justice and injustice, we look to Dr. King’s example as we work with our neighbors to make our community, our state, our country a better place than we found it.

We hope you join us in taking today to reflect on Dr. King’s journey and how we can take up the mantle to continue his work.
