Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement today in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“During a 1957 speech in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ As we observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day—the only federal holiday designated as a Day of National Service—let us each reflect on how we can better serve our families, our neighbors, and our communities. May we all renew our commitment to building a state and nation grounded in shared responsibility, and to expanding justice, equality, and fairness for all people.”
