John, I haven’t been looking forward to January 20, 2025.
President Trump, the man who paved the way for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and strip millions of Americans of their fundamental rights, will take the Oath of Office this afternoon.
If you’re feeling discouraged, I don’t blame you.
But if you’re feeling like all is lost and we have no chance of stopping Trump’s agenda, let me remind you of my story:
When Trump first won, I was working for Planned Parenthood, and I saw the threat he posed to our reproductive freedoms. Fundraising and protesting weren’t enough. I decided on Election Night 2016 that I would run for office so I could be in a position to change the policies and protect my neighbors.
It wasn’t easy. I was told over and over that “a queer Latina who worked for Planned Parenthood,” could not win in my competitive State Senate district. But not only did I win — I helped pass nearly 200 new laws, was elected Deputy Majority Leader by my colleagues, and won a race to become the country’s first queer Latina in Congress.
I’m proof that the future isn’t set. The Trump agenda isn’t inevitable. And threats we face next, we’ll face them together.
My two goals are to protect our neighbors from the worst of the MAGA policies and to do everything I can to take back the House as soon as possible. That’s why Team Emily is starting to fundraise and organize NOW, so we’re in the best possible position to support Democratic candidates in 2026. Can you chip in $10, $25, or any amount to fuel this effort and be a light on this dark day?
