While today marks a new chapter in our nation’s history, I want to assure you that I remain committed to fighting to deliver on the most important issues in the House. I will continue standing up for our rights, our freedom, and progress for all.
For years, MAGA extremism has fomented division, anger, fear, hatred, disinformation, and bigotry. We must brace ourselves for what the new administration will bring. We must remember the values that we believe in and live out those values day in and day out.
Today, we also celebrate and remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I urge you to not just reflect on Dr. King’s work as some kind of distant history but to hear his words as a renewed message on the ongoing movement that we are a part of. His message of nonviolence and compassion is as relevant today as it was during his lifetime. Let us recommit ourselves to his life’s work to bring people together to build one ‘Beloved Community’ at peace with itself.
Now more than ever, it’s important for us to stand together, united by our shared values and morals. The path forward will not be easy — but there’s nothing we can’t do if we do it together.
