Dear John,
The start of this year has been tragic, with many in our Los Angeles communities affected by the devastating fires. I have been comforted by the sense of care and solidarity within our Fulfillment Fund family during these difficult times. We are grateful that our Fulfillment Fund community remains safe, but the loss and hardship so many are facing are immense, with a long road to recovery ahead.
With over 12,000 structures destroyed across Los Angeles from the fires, every day we are learning about more people who have been affected, including families who have lost their homes, businesses, schools, jobs, and the sense of permanence and safety these structures once represented.
Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the quote "Courage is an inner resolution to go forward in spite of obstacles and frightening situations" resonates deeply with me. I’m thinking about the thousands of people who have been impacted by the fires, still grappling with loss and finding ways to rebuild, and the thousands who are helping. I’m also thinking about our Fulfillment Fund students and families from under-resourced communities, whose courage and strength to move forward despite obstacles they face is endlessly inspiring. And I’m reminded that you and they are not alone, as we are with you and them every step of the way. This is how we will get through these unprecedented times. We will navigate this road together.
As we face the challenges ahead, we remain resolute in our mission: to invest in Career-Ready College Grads who will not only overcome obstacles but help to create a more just and equitable future for all. Your support is more crucial than ever.
With the inauguration of a new administration, we recognize there is much uncertainty ahead. But one thing remains constant: our commitment to the students we serve. The road to equity in education is not just about access, but also about resilience, community, and the strength to rebuild from adversity—whether that’s a natural disaster, economic hardship, or systemic inequality. We are committed to standing with our students and families, helping them navigate through challenges, and ensuring that their dreams of becoming career-ready, college graduates remain within reach.
On this Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, we encourage you to take action—whether through volunteering, donating, or offering support in any way that you can. Every act of kindness and service matters, and together, we can make a lasting impact on those who need it most.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together we will build upon our legacy and shape what’s ahead together.
With hope and determination,
Amy Grat
Chief Executive Officer
