“We must learn that passively to accept an unjust system is to cooperate with that system, and thereby to become a participant in its evil.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
John,
As we head into the uncertainty of a new Administration, I recognize the fear that LGBTQIA+ people, especially transgender Virginians and their families, are feeling about what will happen at the federal level, including actions by the new president and Congress.
In moments like these, we’re reminded of our shared history—standing together through challenges, finding community, caring for one another, and advocating & organizing even when it seemed impossible.
Shortly after the election, we created a post-election guide to support individuals navigating this uncertain time. We encourage you to share these resources with anyone who may need them.

Undoubtedly, there will be Day 1 and Week 1 executive orders and declarations of policy via social media, not to mention additional attacks in the years ahead.
Here's my commitment to you in the coming days, weeks and years: we will communicate and lead with accuracy, we will pair news of any executive or federal action with resources, and we will always center our shared values-- not fear.
Equality Virginia is ready to do the work ahead.
Forward together,
Narissa Rahaman (she/her)
