Dear Friends,
In one of his final sermons, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called on us to serve.
He said: “...everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s theory of relativity to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.”
Dr. King’s words resonate today as much as they did in 1968. With the new administration in Washington, it is more important than ever to double down on service locally. We must choose community over self and work together to make a difference in the lives of the people we touch.
Today, I will join the United Way of Frederick County and the Asian American Center of Frederick in an MLK Day of Service event. Tomorrow, I will be back in the office, doing everything I can to make a difference for this incredible community.
I hope you will take a moment today and recommit yourself to helping others, and please know that I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me to serve Frederick County.
Sincerely,
