Today, January 20, 2025, Atlanta DSA will march in the annual MLK Day Parade! The Parade starts at the corner of Peachtree Street and Baker Street downtown, and marchers are expected to be there at 12:00 PM.
Please contact [email protected] with questions! DSA will provide signs and banners, but feel free to bring your own. Wear red!

🌹 Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 🌹

This Monday, as we celebrate the life of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we honor him alongside generations of activists and marginalized communities. While Dr. King is best remembered for his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement, his unwavering support for labor rights and economic justice cannot be overlooked:
"[W]e are saying that something is wrong ... with capitalism.... There must be better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism. Call it what you may, call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all of God's children."
— 1966 SCLC Staff Retreat
"Again we have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that Capitalism grew and prospered out of the protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice. The fact is that Capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor—both black and white, both here and abroad.... The way to end poverty is to end the exploitation of the poor, ensure them a fair share of the government services and the nation’s resources.... We must also realize that the problems of racial injustice and economic injustice cannot be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power."

Dr. King's vision was one of a brighter, more equitable tomorrow—an America for which he fought, even at the cost of his life. His legacy reminds us that change is possible—change will come—but only if we commit to making it happen.
