Today, Donald John Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. He will make history – joining Grover Cleveland as the only president to be sworn in for non-consecutive terms – and he will complete the greatest and most improbable political comeback in American history. We pray for the man – one who narrowly survived as assassination attempt earlier this yar – and for his family. We also pray for our country in these divisive and uncertain times. The overwhelming majority of those receiving this email voted for Trump. Among those, there is a spectrum of opinion on the former and returning president – some love him and some simply think he was the better alternative to the disastrous policies of the Biden-Harris regime. Regardless of where on that spectrum you fall – or even if you did not ultimately vote for him – here’s a certain truth: God saw fit to install this man into the White House a second time. In His sovereign will, He has ordained this moment for our country and for the ultimate good of His people.
Praise Him! As our nation welcomes a new Administration that will range from “friendly” to “less hostile” to our biblical values, here are some important truths believers should remember:
November’s election result is a story only God could write – Donald Trump is a unique character in the history of American politics. Few have claimed as strong of a support base, yet few national leaders have generated such fervent opposition. When he left office in 2021, he had reached historically unpopular levels. However, what was intended for evil – government prosecutions, assassination attempts, and a massive media cover-up of President Biden’s mental condition – were used by God to get this man elected.
While Donald Trump deserves credit for the campaign and victory, the glory is God’s and God’s alone. His hand is mightily and obviously present.
We must seize on this moment – I will not call this a “Great Awakening,” as I do not see our country yet “turning back to God.” However, I do see a “Great Stirring” happening in America. There’s been a significant cultural shift back toward sanity on key issues, most notably the issue of gender. Increasingly Americans recognize the absurdity of gender ideology, and this issue – among others – has driven more racial unity behind common sense than ever before. The 2024 election sparked an incredible realignment. with Black and Hispanic voters rebuking, en masse, the
Left’s lurch toward insanity. As Christians, we know that these are not simply “political issues.” This is an opportunity to point searching, hungry people toward biblical truth and toward the Lord.
Big government remains the enemy – Most of the pain we have experienced in recent years has come from authoritarian government. Vaccine and mask mandates, price controls, shutdown of energy production, the reengineering of society through illegal immigration, the unconstitutional attempt to impose gender ideology on our children, the prosecution of political adversaries, and more have all brought devastating results to our citizens and country. There will be a temptation, now that “we have the power,” to similarly use government to accomplish our means. Yes, there are proper roles of government to stop evil
(yes, government should be used to break the back of the porn industry, for example), but the growth of government is not something we should flippantly champion. In the first Trump Administration, we were blessed with many good results. There was, however, excessive government and excessive spending. A second Administration would be wise to shrink what is almost always used for evil.
Don’t rest and think “we’ve won” – While Donald Trump’s policies are vastly superior to those of the regime we just defeated, Christians should not assume we will always be aligned. Everything he says and does should be tested through biblical truth, not political tribalism. Pulpits, organizations, leaders, and everyday believers should not be afraid to cheer for the President when he is right nor hold him accountable when he’s wrong. Our standard is the Word of God, not Donald Trump, the Republican Party, or whatever your favorite pundit has declared. We must remain vigilant, prayerful,
and look toward the future – while also cultivating ongoing wins at the state and local level. From the moment Donald Trump is sworn in, he will be a “lame duck,” and we cannot think that one term will solve the woes facing our country.
Include the Administration, not just the President, in your prayers – As Joe Biden and Kamala Harris exit power (praise God!), they take with them the most radical, extreme, and dangerous cabinet ever assembled. While we do not know who was truly “calling the shots” in the White House, we do note that cabinet members like Merrick Garland, Xavier Becerra, Pete Buttigieg, Miguel Cardona, and Alejandro Mayorkas greatly abused power to harm our country. Though there are some picks I like more than others (Marco Rubio, Kelly Loeffler, and Russ Vought are some of the major standouts), we should pray for the full
Administration and watch actions as we seek the restoration of American norms, rights, strength, and opportunities.
There are many lessons for the American people to learn after this incredibly dark time. There is also reason to rejoice that – through no merit of a nation fleeing from godliness – the Lord saw fit to show mercy to our country and its people. Looking ahead,
