Trump Plans to Sign 200 Executive Orders on First Day
Fox News: President-elect Trump will sign more than 200 executive actions on his first day in office—a massive, record-setting first wave of policy priorities focused on border security, energy, reducing the cost of living for American families, ending DEI programs across the federal government, and more. A senior administration official who is familiar with the executive actions said Trump will sign multiple “omnibus” executive orders that each contain dozens of major executive actions ( Fox News). Paul Szypula: Trump correctly calls out the mess he’s inheriting from Biden. That’s why Trump is starting off his administration with TWO HUNDRED EXECUTIVE ORDERS on day one ( X).

New York Times Reveals Handful of People Controlled What News Biden Received
National Review: In the latest edition of “NOW it can be told,” with two days left in Joe Biden’s presidency, the New York Times tells us that six people effectively controlled what information got to Biden, and what information was withheld. One more observation about the foggy, out-of-it mindset of our president for the past four years: Apparently, it never crossed Joe Biden’s mind that it was odd that he rarely if ever did events before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. in the afternoon. (The Times reports, “Biden pushed his staff to keep him scheduled and busy,” but we can see the leisurely pace in the public schedule, and how many days featured the words, “the President has no public events scheduled”) ( National Review). New York Times: Six key people protected the president. Jill Biden, the first lady, and Hunter Biden, his surviving son, fervently believed in his ability to win. Mr. Donilon and Steve Ricchetti, the counselor to Mr. Biden, knew when and how to deliver information, along with Annie Tomasini, the deputy chief of staff. She and Anthony Bernal, the first lady’s most senior aide, took tight control over the president’s public schedule ( New York Times).

Speaker Johnson Details When He Realized Biden Was No Longer In Charge
Ed Morrissey: As the House Speaker tells Bari Weiss in a live interview for The Free Press, Johnson considers Joe Biden the worst president in US history. It’s not just the policies or the actions that drive that assessment, Johnson explains, but the fact that Biden clearly had no idea what was going on in his own administration — or even what Biden’s own executive orders said and did. Almost exactly a year ago in January 2024, Johnson met with Biden for an Oval Office meeting on national security, but Johnson wanted to discuss a recent EO that cut off liquified natural gas to Europe ( HotAir). Maine Wire: Mike Johnson tells a wild story about how Biden had no idea he paused LNG exports to Europe. “He obviously has not been in charge for some time” ( X).

Hamas Releases First Three Hostages After Ceasefire Deal Passed
National Review: The long-awaited cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas took effect on Sunday, leading to the release of the first three of the remaining hostages held in Gaza since October 7, 2023. The start of the truce was delayed by two to three hours after Hamas failed to release the names of the hostages set to be released Sunday, a sign of the fragile truce between the two warring sides. Hamas eventually released the names, noting it is still committed to the agreement. All three women had been held captive in Gaza since Hamas’s terror attack on Israel 15 months ago ( National Review). NBC: Hundreds of aid trucks were beginning to enter Gaza, which has been devastated by airstrikes and shelling in the wake of Israel’s response to Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas led a cross-border terrorist attack that Israeli officials say killed 1,200 people and saw 251 others taken as hostages ( NBC).

CBS Considers Settling in $10 Billion Lawsuit Filed By Trump
Wall Street Journal: Paramount Global executives have held internal discussions about settling a lawsuit filed by Donald Trump over a CBS News interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Paramount, owner of CBS, has a major piece of business in front of the new administration: its planned merger with Skydance Media. It’s become clear to executives at both companies that Trump’s dissatisfaction with CBS News will make the review tougher than they anticipated, and that they’ll likely need to offer concessions to win approval, people familiar with the situation said. Incoming Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr gave Paramount executives a warning to that effect at a reception late last year following the taping of the Kennedy Center honors in Washington. The FCC has the authority over the transaction because it would involve the transfer of broadcast-TV licenses held by local CBS-owned stations. Trump’s lawsuit against CBS, which seeks $10 billion in damages, alleges that the network committed election interference by editing portions of an interview with Harris, favoring her campaign for president. Trump claimed CBS aired one version of the interview on “60 Minutes” and another version on its show “Face the Nation,” each containing different answers about Israel ( Wall Street Journal). End Wokeness: CBS is considering settling the $10 billion lawsuit by President Trump for election interference ( X).
