News From Congressman Bilirakis

Dear Neighbor,

While the weather may be frigid, the atmosphere is filled with excitement as we prepare for tomorrow's inauguration of President Trump.  House Republicans have been working to ensure we are ready to deliver results on Day 1.  Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf last week.

Leading the Charge:  I’m honored to be appointed to key positions on the Energy & Commerce Committee and look forward to working with my colleagues to advance an America First agenda.

Protecting the Rights of Women and Girls:  House Republicans are once again standing up for women and girls with passage of The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act last week.  It will ensure fair competition in women's and girls' sports by prohibiting males identifying as women from competing in women’s sports that receive federal funding.  Hopefully, the Republican-led Senate will do the right thing and expedite its passage.

Deporting Violent Criminals:  Americans have had enough of violent crime committed by illegal aliens.  The Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act will make illegal aliens who are convicted or who admit to committing sex offenses or domestic violence inadmissible and deportable from the US.  It passed the House last week with my support and I urge my Senate colleagues to expedite its passage!

Ensuring Transparency:  As Floridians know all too well, many Americans have been tragically victimized by recent natural disasters.  While we want to provide support to our fellow Americans in need and mitigate future losses, we have an obligation to ensure tax dollars are being spent as wisely as possible.  The Post-Disaster Assistance Online Accountability Act, which passed the House this week with my support, requires the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to create a subpage within USAspending.gov to publish information on disaster assistance. Federal agencies will be required to submit information on the total amount of disaster assistance provided during the previous quarter, the amount of assistance that was expended and a detailed list of all projects or activities for which aid was disbursed.  Transparency is vital to ensuring the best use of your tax dollars.

Stopping the Weaponization of Government:  In the middle of the night last week, Jack Smith released a biased, politically-motivated report targeting President Donald Trump.  In November, 77 million Americans opposed the weaponization of the DOJ.  The weaponization of our government ends tomorrow when President Trump takes office.

Improving Health Outcomes:  I am proud to co-lead the Congressional Diabetes Caucus to garner support on issues that will help the millions of Americans living with diabetes achieve better health outcomes. Click here to learn more about the work we are doing through our caucus.

Encouraging Future STEM Leaders:  It was great to stop by Angeline Innovation Academy to meet with Keertana and Rishika Ganesh, sisters who have won the District 12 Congressional App Challenge.  These creative and motivated students developed Plan It, an app that helps kids focus dedicated time on homework by preventing other social media distractions for set periods of time.  As winners of this award, their app will be on display in the Capitol for the next year and they will have the chance to participate in a workshop with other winners from throughout the country.  Congratulations!

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team participated in the Pasco-Hernando State College Human Trafficking Awareness Panel.

My team also met with the Ridge Manor Support group that is actively working to help hurricane victims recover from the storm.

Additionally, my team attended the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce's January luncheon to learn more about State Representative JJ Grow's plans for serving our community.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this note after helping a local Veteran obtain his missing medical supplies.

I want to thank you and your staff for the awesome help you gave me. My medical supplies that were needed (and never sent ) from the VA arrived today.  You have helped me care for my wound and saved my foot from possible amputation! You sir, are a godsend! Thank you so much!

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
