A PERSONAL NOTE
One thing I think is very important is not to expect miracles overnight.
What I mean by this is that the new president has a LOT of work to do and it cannot be done all simultaneously.
The economy needs work, there's a crisis of illegals, there are people still living in tents in frigid Appalachia, our infrastructure isn't in great shape, crime rates are out of control...there's a lot to be done.
I know many are looking forward to a new, safer, and more prosperous era, but it won't be a matter of just pushing a reset button on Day One, no matter how much I wish it was so.
My prediction is that prices will continue to be high, at least for a little while. It's going to take time to fix the economy. Putting some of your money into precious metalsis essential, as is remaining prepped and well-stocked. Vendors have paid the price they have paid for the merchandise on the shelves, and they're not going to sell it at a loss simply because there's a new administration. I believe it'll take around six months for any real financial relief for average folks.
As far as safety is concerned - that's something that has the potential to change more quickly. If penalties are enacted quickly, suddenly, stealing and hurting people
will be a lot less desirable for the folks who do that. Whether this means jail time, fines, or deportation, would need to depend on the crime.
I've been surprised at how little actual fuss there's been since the election. I thought there could be an outbreak of violence and vandalism in the days following it, but things weren't bad in most areas. I thought we might see trouble on January 6th, but it was peaceful.
I'm fervently hoping that the inauguration goes through without a hitch. Until that's done, I will still be waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know what they
used to say in the old Westerns: It's quiet out there. Too quiet.
I believe it's more important than ever to stay apprised of what's happening right away. I've been using an early warning system called Alerts USA for years now, and it can't be beat for getting information quickly. You get Homeland Security threat and incident notifications straight to your device. (Obviously, these are the unclassified warnings.) I have found this service to be completely unbiased and factual.
I've been dealing with the frigid weather here by working on my next book, Haven Hill. It's going pretty quickly and I'm thoroughly enjoying writing it. If you'd like to purchase all of my fiction in one place this weekend, I'm running a sale on a bundle of it, starting at only $5. Every single sale helps us keep the lights on here, and I appreciate your purchases.
I hope you're enjoying the story so far. I really like the
characters in it, and building the air of suspense and mystery has been fun and challenging.
We're facing threats to our food supply from many different angles: supply chain breakdowns, drought, food facilities being ravaged by fires, skyrocketing inflation, and outright shortages. No longer can we live in the comfort of unthreatened abundance. We're learning exactly how delicate the system really is.
Prepping and putting back supplies is incredibly important but what we're seeing now goes beyond that. You have to be able to produce and acquire more food. You have to be able to put back your harvests to eat during the winter. You have to be able to prepare items that once were as convenient as popping open a can or little plastic container.
You need a paperback copy of How to Feed Your Family No Matter What, our Organic Prepper anthology with ALL of our content about food. You'll get more than 500 pages of content that are all about food when you can't just go to the store and buy whatever
you want.
