Three Steps to Being...A Better Workplace Ally (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean doesn’t mean your ally skills should slow down! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

1. Learn: Check out straightforequality.org/workplace to learn more about PFLAG National’s efforts to create more inclusive workplace cultures for people who identify as LGBTQ+, via our Straight for Equality(TM) program.
2. Watch: In May 2019, just before the historic passage of The Equality Act in the US House of Representatives, PFLAG National released The Equality Act: What PFLAG Members & Supporters Need to Know which outlines how that legislation will protect LGBTQ+ employees nationwide. You should also consider checking out The Lavender Scare to learn more about the history of workplace discrimination in the US.
3. Share: Use social media to elevate companies and brands that demonstrate support for their LGBTQ+ customers and employees during Pride Month in June – and all year long. And if you have a LinkedIn profile don’t forget to connect with PFLAG National/Straight for Equality!

#DecisionDay is coming!

On October 8, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments for three cases: Altitude Express v. Zarda, Bostock v. Clayton County, GA, and R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes v. EEOC and Aimee Stephens. The outcome of these cases will determine whether workers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender will continue to be protected under our nation's federal civil rights laws. The Court will issues its decision in spring 2020.
