John,
With so many parades canceled and vacations on hold, it's a much quieter
Memorial Day than we're used to. As we practice physical distancing, our
cookouts won't look or feel quite the same this year. But what doesn't change
is the importance of the holiday we're marking together.
Today we honor all the men and women who died while serving our country in
uniform. Their sacrifices have preserved our nation and protected our freedoms,
and we are forever in their debt. If you have lost a loved one in our armed
services, you are in our thoughts today.
One of the best ways to honor those we've lost is to express our appreciation
and support for those serving today and their families. Right now, our men and
women in uniform are working around the world to keep us safe -- and to keep
building a better, safer, freer world.
That's a mission we can all help support, in our own ways. And as the world
faces this public health crisis, American leadership in this mission has taken
on new urgency.
So today, we salute those who forever shaped our nation, and we recommit
ourselves to the ideals and principles they valiantly died to protect.
Stay healthy, stay safe, and happy Memorial Day.
Thanks,
Mike Bloomberg
