What exactly is the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)?

After the election, Trump announced his plan to create a commission to advise the White House on how to “restructure” federal agencies and maximize government efficiency.

Headed by Elon Musk (ew) and Vivek Ramaswamy, DOGE would work outside of government to help cut government spending.

If you’re thinking that doesn’t sound so bad, just wait. Here’s the scam:

DOGE’s main priority will be widespread deregulation, corporate favoritism, and eliminating government accountability.

One of Musk’s plans to cut spending is to eliminate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which protects consumers from predatory financial practices. Corporations view the CFPB as an obstacle to maximizing profits while ultimately harming the rest of us. Getting rid of such a critical federal bureau would be a gift to big banks, shady loan companies, and Musk’s billionaire besties.

On top of that, critical programs like housing assistance, veterans’ healthcare, and education spending are on the chopping block thanks to DOGE.
