Friend,
My name is Courtney Ridgway and I'm the Senior Director of
Communications at Project HOPE. I'm here in Los Angeles with our
emergency response team and partners on the ground, where we're
supporting mobile medical units and health clinics and distributing
essential supplies to evacuees at LA County's largest evacuation
shelter.
Otto and his 5-month-old cat, Bossy,
were forced to flee their home due to the Eaton Fire. "People make
the place," Otto told us, and we couldn't agree more.
The nightmare is far from over, with fires
continuing to rage and over 170,000 residents under evacuation notice.
This is in addition to the tens of thousands of people who have been
displaced since this crisis began. The reality is that exposure to
climate events like these catastrophic fires increase the risk of
anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with
children being most affected.
