Dear Friend,

My name is Courtney Ridgway and I’m the Senior Director of Communications at Project HOPE. I’m here in Los Angeles with our emergency response team and partners on the ground, where we're supporting mobile medical units and health clinics and distributing essential supplies to evacuees at LA County's largest evacuation shelter.

Otto a lifelong resident of Pasadena, CA evacuated from the Eaton Fire in January 2025 with his 5-month old kitten “Bossy” in tow. He is now accessing resources and support at the Pasadena Convention Center, which is acting as the base for the largest evacuation shelter in Los Angeles County. Project HOPE is supporting the on-site mobile medical units through AltaMed and providing hygiene and respiratory supplies for affected communities.

Otto and his 5-month-old cat, Bossy, were forced to flee their home due to the Eaton Fire. "People make the place," Otto told us, and we couldn't agree more.

The nightmare is far from over, with fires continuing to rage and over 170,000 residents under evacuation notice. This is in addition to the tens of thousands of people who have been displaced since this crisis began. The reality is that exposure to climate events like these catastrophic fires increase the risk of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with children being most affected.

My colleagues and I have been so moved by how many of you from the Project HOPE community have reached out asking for ways to help and offer words of support to people impacted by the historic LA wildfires.

We wanted to find a way for you to share your support, so we put together this message wall for you to add to. Please use it to share a note of encouragement and let Los Angeles know that our community has them in our thoughts and that they’re not in it alone.
