John,
Everyone deserves the right to a safe home, nutritious food, and quality health care. In the wealthiest country in the world, the U.S. can provide that―but instead, right-wing politicians are trying to gut funding for critical programs that help the aging, children, the poor, and people with disabilities, while at the same time giving their ultra-wealthy donors massive tax cuts. It’s unconscionable.
On Monday, Donald Trump will take the oath of office for his second term in the White House―setting the table for right-wing extremists to implement their Project 2025 policy wishlist.
A House Budget Committee plan, which Republicans want to move forward by the end of February, includes $5.3 trillion in cuts to critical programs, including $2.3 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and $151 billion in cuts to the Affordable Care Act.1,2
With a new administration beginning Monday and House Republicans expediting their draconian budget, we’re not wasting any time in fighting back.

Why are House Republicans proposing more than $5 trillion in cuts? Because an extension of the 2017 Trump-GOP Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would cost virtually the same amount. A new report from the Treasury Department shows that an extension of the Trump-GOP tax scam would cost $5.5 trillion―with the top 1% of income earners receiving 30% of the benefits.3
Instead of more tax cuts for the rich, vulnerable people deserve access to safe, stable, affordable housing and food. In fact, 4 in 10 adults in the United States say their family’s income isn’t enough to meet household expenses―55% of them make $50,000 per year or less.4
Now is NOT the time to implement drastic cuts to programs that families rely on―instead, policymakers need to reduce household costs to ensure we can all access safe housing, nutritious food, and quality health care.
We must do everything we can to ensure that the needs and concerns of everyday families are being heard by our lawmakers.
