This week, as the United States Senate started its consideration of Cabinet nominees, the Muslim Public Affairs Council submitted statements and questions for the record to the committees that have the most impact on our work.

* Senate Judiciary Committee:
+ Nominee: Pam Bondi for Attorney General
* Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee:
+ Nominee: Kristi Noem for Secretary of Homeland Security

Meaningful engagement requires more than just merely pointing out differences; it demands shaping the conversation with purpose and integrity. While policy disagreements—sometimes fundamental and far-reaching—are an inevitable part of governance, our role transcends simple opposition or protest.
Through our constructive engagement with committee members, our goal is to thoughtfully contribute to the dialogue, fostering understanding and collaboration, even when we oppose specific policies or actions. It is essential to strike a balance: standing resolute in advancing our priorities and principles while remaining open to dialogue that facilitates future engagement.
With that as our guiding principle, we can work to ensure that the voices and concerns of American Muslims are part of the confirmation process. Through carefully crafted questions, we raised issues ranging from combating white supremacy to ensuring the protection of religious freedom and civil rights. We sought to hold the nominees accountable for their records and their rhetoric while also emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, respect, and the diversity that strengthens our nation.
