Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, The 119th Congress is in full swing and with my support, the House passed legislation to protect the integrity of women's sports, prevent violence against women from illegal aliens, improve disaster preparedness, increase transparency and accountability in government, and more. This week, I had the privilege to sign my Oath of Office for the 119th Congress. Serving as your representative in Congress is an honor and responsibility I take to heart every day. In this job, I’m reminded daily of the values that make Iowa so special—hard work, family, and resilience. These are the values I carry with me as I advocate for our farmers, small businesses, and families. Whether it’s pushing for economic growth, holding government accountable, or protecting our way of life, I’m committed to delivering results that matter to you. As we close out our second week of the 119th Congress—and are just three days away from President Trump returning to the White House—I know the best is yet to come for Iowa! Best, Visit to Garnavillo Mini Mart in Clayton County While traveling on my 22-County Tour on Friday, I stopped at Garnavillo Mini Mart and had the pleasure of meeting with the proud owners, Didier and Anne Vanderbiest. Originally from Belgium, the couple moved to the U.S. after Didier visited Iowa—and became convinced that Iowa was the best place to live and start a business. They now provide rural Iowans with everyday staples, convenience items, and authentic Belgian waffles at the mini mart, in addition to raising high-quality Belgian Blue cattle. I enjoyed hearing about this family’s own American Dream! Click here to read more in the Postville Herald. Touring WinnMed in Winneshiek County While touring through Winneshiek County, I had the opportunity to tour the expansion and improvement projects underway at WinnMed in Decorah. The health and safety of my constituents will always be a top priority, and I’m grateful for the top-notch care our healthcare professionals deliver to rural Iowans close to home! Read more about my tour of WinnMed in the Decorah Leader and in Decorah News. Conversations with Oelwein Fire Department in Fayette County I met with the Oelwein Volunteer Fire Department to hear more about what they’re seeing on the ground in Fayette County. I will always fight to ensure our rural communities have the resources they need to stay safe. There is no better time to highlight the courage of first responders, and I thank those who regularly put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities - in Iowa and across the country. Meeting with Ziegler CAT in Allamakee County Ziegler CAT has been a trusted leader in providing quality service and equipment to the construction and agriculture industries for over a century. Thank you to the team for giving me a tour of your facility—I’m looking forward to visiting Postville again once the new Ziegler CAT facility is complete! In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I voiced my support for Governor Reynold's bold, conservative policy agenda that will build on her previous successes. I announced that I will continue serving on key House Appropriations subcommittees including Agriculture-FDA, Homeland Security, and Financial Services. I helped introduce a bill to extend concealed carry reciprocity beyond state lines. I cosponsored the Federal Employee Return to Work Act to end telework abuse by federal bureaucrats.
