Securing Your Financial Future

Last week, I was appointed Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of policymaking in one of the most innovative sectors of our economy.

Currently, digital assets, financial technology, and artificial intelligence operate under confusing or conflicting rules or sometimes without clear rules at all. This dynamic can fence out new startups and curb innovation while still leaving consumers and investors vulnerable to fraud.

My priority as Chair of this subcommittee is to ensure regular Americans are protected from fraud, that criminals are prevented from abusing these new technologies, and that America remains a leader in this emerging industry.

What does this mean for you?

It means that as new technologies give us more options for investing our retirement funds, making payments, depositing checks, and accessing credit, consumers will be assured that they are interacting with an industry with established guardrails that they can rely on.

It means that new sectors of the economy with enormous potential for growth have clear rules that prioritize transparency and accessibility over secrecy and unregulated markets.

It means that Wisconsin families will have an advocate at the table who will prioritize their financial security and well-being first and foremost.

Announcing the 2024 Veteran of the Year

America is only the land of the free because of the brave. I've had the privilege to meet many of the more than 45,000 veterans in Southeastern Wisconsin and listen to their stories. We owe these men and women a debt of gratitude for their service to our nation.

Too often, our veterans' service and sacrifices, both during and after their time in uniform, goes unrecognized. As you may know, I present a Veteran of the Year Award to honor a veteran who embodies the values of service, excellence, and dedication.

This year, I had the honor of presenting the award to Sergeant Patrick "Pat" Riley, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam War Veteran from Janesville. In addition to his military service, Sgt. Riley continues to serve his community as a member of the Vietnam Vets of America, Marine Corps League, and the Janesville VFW. He also volunteers in numerous veterans ceremonies on Memorial Day, POW/MIA Day, and Veterans Day, as well as lending a hand in parades and wreath-laying ceremonies in our area.

Please join me and the entire First Congressional District in congratulating Sgt. Riley on receiving this year's Veteran of the Year Award.

Inauguration Day

On Monday, Donald J. Trump will take his oath of office and be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States— only the second non-consecutive two-term President in our nation's history.

The event will be broadcast on major news networks and the White House’s live stream here.

Be sure to tune in on Monday, January 20, at 11:00 am CT to see it for yourself.

As always, if my office can ever be helpful to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
