Dear FAMMily,
You spoke, and President Biden listened.
Today, the president is commuting nearly 2,500 federal sentences! This monumental action is a testament to the power of our collective work and advocacy. During FAMM’s Clemency Now! Leading With Justice and Mercy campaign, you stepped up — like you always do. You joined us in Twitter take-overs, you shared an incredible array of stories, and you spread social media content far and wide. You came to our clemency trainings in droves, and you worked hard to share that knowledge with your loved ones in prison.
You kept the drumbeat for clemency going loud and strong. We are so grateful! There are still two more days for President Biden to grant more commutations – we can’t let up on that drumbeat! Please continue to tweet him directly here! [link removed]
The list of recipients includes people sentenced under the crack and powder cocaine disparity, like Terrance Stanton ([link removed]), under extreme mandatory minimums that could no longer be imposed today, like Celeste Blair ([link removed]), and those serving “old law” sentences for offenses committed before 1987, like Michael Montalvo ([link removed]). We are thrilled for the people and families who received relief today.
This is a day to celebrate! Let’s continue to fight for fairness, dignity, and second chances—because when we work together, change happens.
With immense gratitude,
Shaneva D. McReynolds, Ph.D.
President, FAMM
