John,
I just released my proposal to balance the state budget to address Maryland’s budget crisis. Here’s what you should know:
* Nearly two-thirds of Marylanders will get a tax cut.
* We will lower the corporate tax rate and focus on making Maryland more competitive and business-friendly.
* Our plan cuts spending by $2 billion.
This is a bold plan — but the moment requires bold action to ensure we are creating a sustainable budget for the year and investing in our future.
These aren’t easy decisions. The current budget crisis has been in the making for nearly a decade, and we need to create a responsible budget that balances economic growth, and weathering the current crisis at hand.
It is our responsibility to weather the year ahead and emerge stronger. Making the tough decisions now ensures we can maintain our focus on growing the middle class and provide pathways for Marylanders to find good jobs, earn fair wages, and have opportunities to increase wealth. We are going to do that by creating jobs, prioritizing regulatory reform, and making it easier for businesses to grow and stay in Maryland.
We lead through partnership. By working together, we will win this moment and leave no one behind.
Elevate,
Wes
