Hi John,
Welcome to the latest New PA Project Education Fund (NPPEF) newsletter!
On Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and on all days, we must remember what he stood for, “whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” There is nothing we can’t accomplish when we stand together for what’s right and what’s just. All of us know democracy works best when it works for everyone. And we will continue to empower our communities to get out and vote in ALL elections! Thank you for doing your part to stay informed and engaged! |

Dr. King dedicated his life to being a public servant. He and his wife, Coretta Scott King, showed the world that community organizing leads to critical changes in our communities.
We are honored to continue their legacy by working together to uplift, register, and mobilize voters across Pennsylvania.

Since 2021, NPPEF, alongside the affiliated New Pennsylvania Project, assisted 48,000 Pennsylvanians in registering to vote and worked to mobilize voters to ensure their voices are heard. Now, we want to ensure you feel informed and happy with our impact. Please take a few minutes to help us improve our work and tell us what issues you care most about this year.

| On Thursday, January 30th from 6:30 to 8:00PM, Why Courts Matter - Pennsylvania and affiliated organization New Pennsylvania Project will host their second virtual town hall on the importance of our state and federal courts.
This town hall will focus on how courts impact our daily lives, how to engage in the state judicial election process, and how to engage in the judicial election process to protect the independence of our federal courts. |

Our teams launched our 2025 civic education and voter registration campaigns in Luzerne, Allegheny, Philadelphia, Dauphin, York and Lackawanna counties. We are ready to assist eligible Pennsylvanians in registering to vote. |

With critical judicial elections in May in November, we are out in our communities mobilizing people to vote in every election – twice a year. |
Pennsylvania is one of only seven states in the entire country that votes for all of our judges and justices in partisan elections. November 2025, voters in PA will have the power to elect judges or remove judges and justices from the bench in nonpartisan retention election voting, including three PA Supreme Court Justices. |

Pennsylvania legislative preview: Will long-discussed election proposals finally get through?
"Pennsylvania lawmakers beginning their new legislative session this month are preparing to debate what changes, if any, should be made to the way the state’s elections are run. Once again, Republicans are planning to champion expanded voter ID requirements, while Democrats want to answer county calls for more time to process mail ballots and implement early voting."
Meet the General Assembly's new committee chairs
"Committees are where legislation gets discussed, amended and approved in the General Assembly, and the legislative bodies are crucial to the policymaking process in Harrisburg. Additionally, they often determine what policies get advanced – and which bills stall – during the state legislature’s busiest periods. With a new legislative session now underway, City & State gathered the latest list of legislative committees – and the lawmakers leading them – to provide a handy resource for anyone following the ins and outs of state government."
Wisconsin voters to decide whether to put photo ID requirement in constitution
"Wisconsin has long had a photo ID requirement for voting on its books — one of the strictest in the nation. This year, voters will decide whether to make it harder to weaken that requirement."
Votebeat 2025: Our reporters look ahead to the big election stories of an ‘off’ election year
"We’re expecting movement on several fronts in 2025, including legislation to fight the (nonexistent) scourge of noncitizens voting, national policy fights over voter access, budget brouhahas, and continued turnover of election officials and workers. Meanwhile, local elections still need to go off as planned."
