John,

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to honor the heroes who died in service to our country. We must never forget their bravery and sacrifice for the causes of freedom, justice, and democracy.

At this difficult moment in our history, it is more important than ever that we remain thankful for those who made our future brighter and exemplified what is best about America.

When times are hardest, we come together. We fight for what is right -- to protect our families, friends, and neighbors; to make the world a better, fairer place; to give our children a future full of opportunity.

Those servicemembers who answered the call to serve and paid the ultimate price are the greatest reminders of these American values. We can never repay our debt to them, but we can remember and honor our fallen every day, in everything we do.

We can lead lives of service to others. At this difficult time, we can offer support to friends who are struggling, even if that just means reaching out with a phone call or a card. If we're able, we can donate to organizations supporting frontline workers and the victims of COVID-19.

Our nation remains forever grateful for our servicemembers' sacrifice, today and every day.

I hope you have a peaceful Memorial Day weekend. I hope you and your loved ones remain well.

Yours,

Suzan
