Dear friend,

I've had the distinct honor of serving beside some of the best women and men I've ever known. Time and again I was astounded by the bravery and selflessness of those who've chosen to leave everything they know and risk it all to protect and defend our freedoms.

Throughout our nation's history, many Americans have lost their lives so that the rest of us may live free and prosper.

That's why we all observe Memorial Day: it's more than just a day off -- it's a time to honor and give thanks to the brave women and men in uniform who never made it home. And I think about those sacrifices every day while I represent our district in the halls of Congress as our military continues defending our values at home and abroad.

So this Memorial Day, please join me in remembering the service members we've lost, and expressing our gratitude for a debt that we can never repay.
