Memorial Day is personal to me.
I served in the Navy Reserve alongside some of the most patriotic men and women this country has ever seen. My father served in Europe during World War II as part of the Greatest Generation of Americans.
But Memorial Day is about more than service to country, it is about sacrifice for freedom and liberty. Today, on Memorial Day, I think of the families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation -- sacrifices that ensured our independence, defeated facism, and advanced American values around the globe.
Today, I hope you'll join me in remembering the men and women who bravely served in uniform. Today, we pause and we reflect. Today, with solemn pride, we place our hands over our hearts, as we remember those who we can no longer thank for the gifts we were given.
The heroes who are no longer here gave their lives to protect our way of life and the safety of our nation. We must never forget those who died in service for our freedom and our country.
God bless all those who have served, and thank you to those currently in service.
-- Gary

Peters for Michigan Po Box 32072 Detroit, MI 48244
PAID FOR BY PETERS FOR MICHIGAN
Senator Gary Peters stands up for middle-class families in Michigan and across America every day. He is fighting for quality education, increasing job growth and protecting our values. Gary is working hard to stand up to the extreme Trump agenda and turn the Senate blue, and the path to taking back Congress runs right through Michigan.
Senator Peters was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Use of his military rank, job titles, and photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Navy or the Department of Defense.
