It’s the honor of my lifetime to continue serving the Commonwealth as Speaker of the State House.

In the last legislative session, House Democrats made huge achievements, like our historic investment in public education and tripling the childcare tax credit. With a new session underway, my eyes are focused on how we can continue helping Pennsylvanians.

* Economy: Our Democratic majority is going to double down on building an economy that works for all Pennsylvanians and helps working families thrive here. We’re going to work to cut costs and raise the minimum wage.
* Housing: We have a number of bills that will be introduced in the coming session that provide a fair shake to Pennsylvanians looking for affordable housing and attaining home ownership.
* Public transportation: Last session, House Democrats passed three separate bills that provide public transit funding for all 67 counties, including SEPTA. The State Senate has never taken it up, but it is time for both chambers to come together to pass a bill that continuously provides a steady stream of funding for public transit.

While Democrats are working to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians, extremists in both chambers of the state legislature are going to push legislation that mirrors the misguided and dangerous agenda of the incoming presidential administration.

As Speaker of the Pennsylvania House, I am going to lead House Democrats to stand in the gap for Pennsylvanians and ensure that the bills that come to the House floor are bills that improve our Commonwealth and do the most good for Pennsylvanians — not bills that harm them.
