Friend — ICYMI: Just a few days ago, President Biden added to his record as the most pro-climate president in history by designating the Chuckwalla and Sáttítla Highlands National Monuments in California.

|
The monuments protect and honor living landscapes that are rich in cultural, recreational, and ecological resources that continue to sustain the well-being and survival of Indigenous peoples. Sáttítla Highlands National Monument offers protections for a unique volcanic landscape that is home to critical water resources for millions of people, as well as agriculture and fish populations, and Chuckwalla National Monument provides an example of how clean energy and conservation practices can coexist to simultaneously tackle the climate crisis and build climate resilience.

This is an important victory, Friend, and it would not have been possible without your support. LCV members have submitted thousands of messages to the Biden administration urging them to take action to protect unique landscapes like these — thank you.

But it doesn’t stop there. Last week, the Biden administration announced protections off the coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Eastern Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea by withdrawing 625 million acres of offshore waters from future oil and gas leasing. Preventing the expansion of future oil development off virtually all of our country’s coasts will help meet our climate goals and safeguard communities.

With these announcements, President Biden has protected more of our nation’s lands and waters than any other U.S. president in history — more than 670 million acres of lands, waters, and oceans across the country. We are forever grateful to President Biden for his steadfast commitment and unparalleled leadership in protecting our communities, our health, our climate, and our treasured places.

We could not have done it without supporters like you, Friend. Now we must work together to protect this progress from any and all attacks. Thank you!
