Tobacco and Vapes Bill Special
This week I've been kept very busy by the ongoing passage of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, where I've been in lengthy discussions with colleagues from across the house.
I've been delighted this week to vote for the Renters Rights Bill, welcome the ceasefire achieved in Gaza and visit Alcohol Change UK in Parliament.
Next week I'll be back out in the community, and at one of my regular Advice Bureaux's in Gorton.
ANDREW IN THE COMMUNITY
šŗSpeaking at Alcohol UK's event
Today I was welcomed to speak at Alcohol UK's event in Parliament, they're an organisation doing great work on reducing alcohol harms across the UK.
I also got to speak with representatives from alcohol free and low alcohol companies, who are helping to drive a boost to the pub industry, attracting new customers to their locals.
For me, this is a successful 17th day of Dry January!
š Tobacco and Vapes Committee
Every Tuesday and Thursday in January, we are debating the landmark Tobacco and Vapes Bill in line-by-line detail, all day.
Bill Committee Stage is the level of scrutiny most people donāt get to see on TV⦠As well as every Clause of the Bill being debated and voted on separately, we also have a great number of amendments to look at, debate and vote on.
Iām blessed with a great lineup of Labour MPs defending our proposals, and thereās also 4 Conservatives and 2 LibDems on the Committee.
ANDREW IN PARLIAMENT
It was my pleasure to vote for the Renters Rights Bill, securing the stability of renting, and making sure tenants get fair protections.
50% off train tickets was announced by the Secretary of State for Transport, in the UK's biggest ever rail sale between January and March.
A £60m boost for creative industries was announced on Friday, helping to support Manchester's fantastic creative industry, worth an estimated £5bn to the city.
We announced our consultation to tackle ticket touts and to cap ticket resale prices, ensuring people can get to the events they love, for a fair price.
