Friends,
Today, I want to express my gratitude to the heroes who answered the call to serve our country, and who gave their lives to secure our freedoms. We pray for them, we thank them, and we honor their memories as the best that this country has to offer.
I'm reminded of Memorial Day last year, when I was humbled to speak at a service honoring our veterans at the place where my father -- a veteran -- is buried. We joined together in prayer to remember the soldiers who died too young, as well as the ones who lived long lives of service to this country. And although we can't join together in person to honor our heroes this year, I hope you'll join me in taking a moment -- from the safety of our homes -- to remember their sacrifices.
I also want to take a moment today to remember the men and women who have lost their lives in service to this country, not in uniform, but on the frontlines of our fight against COVID-19. This new generation of heroes answered a call they never expected to get, and while their battlefield looks different, their spirit of service and sacrifice is familiar. Their memories will not soon be forgotten.
So today, as we commemorate a Memorial Day that looks different from any we've ever seen, I'm so grateful for all who have served, and I am praying for those who are still in harm's way today.
Thank you.
-Ben
