# [#]John,

The situation in Los Angeles is nothing short of devastating. These are among the most destructive wildfires in recorded history – families are mourning, and many are returning to ruins as thousands of structures have been destroyed.

My thoughts are with those impacted, and the first responders who are putting everything on the line to contain the wildfires and prevent additional damage.

This is a time for all of us to come together and help our neighbors in crisis, not an opportunity for partisan stunts. We won’t forget the GOP’s shameless exploitation of this tragedy.

Right now, these communities need immediate relief and aid. Then, as they begin to recover and rebuild, we must turn our focus to long-term solutions to build resilience and mitigate damage from these kinds of disasters.

This level of devastation doesn’t have to be our new normal, John. It’s past time to tackle the climate crisis head-on and deliver meaningful change.

Right now, I urge anyone in the affected areas to pay close attention to updates, follow the guidance of your local officials, and be prepared. The Los Angeles Fire Department website posts alerts regularly, and has helpful information for anyone who may need to quickly evacuate. You can also download the FEMA app to stay updated.

If you’re out of harm’s way and would like to help those in need, consider supporting organizations like the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation [[link removed]] , United Way of Greater Los Angeles [[link removed]] , and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank [[link removed]] .

Thanks for all you do.
