Mark your calendars!

Every year in January, we re-organize. We are looking for new central committee members from supervisor districts #2 (Cameron Park & EDH-Latrobe area), #3 (Placerville & Diamond Springs area), and #4 (Georgetown, Rescue & Placerville area) as well as Democrats from throughout EDC to serve on our standing committees - Communications, Fundraising/Events, Candidate Development & Campaign Services. We'll also be selecting EDC DCC Officers, Delegates to the State Central Committee and the Executive Board Representative, along with confirming the Vice-Chair positions.

As many folks say, one of the best antidotes to feeling down is action. Don't miss this opportunity!

DCC Meeting

Brooke Laine,

EDC Board of Supervisors, District 5

What is the Democratic plan for the next 4years? Haven’t heard anything?"
Thank you for bringing up this important question!
EDC Dems are developing a new approach to community-building, from the neighborhood level all the way up to the State and National. Working closely with local partners and community leaders, we are reflecting, listening, discussing, and strengthening our strategy to not only be in a better position for electoral success in 2026 & 2028, but also to continue fostering community before, between, and beyond these elections.
The EDC DCC Executive Committee has endorsed and has been actively encouraging our state DNC members and rural DCC Chairs to elect Ben Wikler to become the next DNC Chair. We believe he will bring the organizing and mobilization skills needed to meet this moment. His successful experience leveraging evidence-based messaging and modern media tools will be a valuable asset as we build a more powerful pro-democracy movement.
The "established" methods of the past have proven to be insufficient for the challenges we face today, so we are in the process of rebuilding, adapting, and fortifying a more effective Democratic strategy moving forward. We'll be holding ongoing community discussions – through digital platforms such as social media, newsletters, websites, and podcasts, as well as more in-person events and gatherings – and will continue to share updates as more concrete plans are available.
Patricia Moore, a member of the Communications team, got this question on our the EDC Dem Facebook page and provided this response. Many thanks, Patricia.

EDC DCC Executive Committee & EDC Democratic Club Presidents unanimously urge California County DCC Chairs and Democratic National Committee members to support Ben Wikler for DNC Chair

As elected members of the EDC DCC Executive Committee & EDC Democratic Club Presidents, we’re urging El Dorado County Democrats, California County DCC Chairs and Democratic National Committee members to support Ben Wikler for DNC Chair. We've been actively communicating our support and will be continuing to do so.

Ben Wikler has formally put his hat in t

he ring and made the case for his candidacy. We think he's the strongest pick. While there may still be candidates who enter the race for Democratic National Committee Chair, we think this will come down to Ken Martin, the Minnesota Democratic Party Chair since 2011 or Ben Wikler the Wisconsin Party Chair since 2019.

In our opinion, it’s better to have a DNC Party Chair from Wisconsin, a swing state that operates on a razor’s edge in every presidential election. Effective party leaders in that environment learn a different skill set. Ken Martin is definitely the insider, having been Vice Chair of the DNC since 2017, but we don’t think that perspective is what we need at this moment. This is a change election. Moreover, the coverage of Wikler’s announcement of his candidacy is impressive, which speaks to his communication skills. His fundraising at $53 million is the highest of any state party chair—more than double Minnesota's Ken Martin at $22M and our own Rusty Hicks at $25 million (which is crazy given how many more wealthy Democratic donors California has when compared to Wisconsin).

As is highlighted in Jennifer Rubin’s podcast and many reports/articles we've read, Wikler brings considerable organizing skills and a strong win record in his state, including the hotly contested race where voters returned Democratic incumbent Tammy Baldwin to the United States Senate.

The election of the new DNC Chair will occur at the DNC meeting on Feb. 1, 2025.

El Dorado County DCC members and activists are encouraged to email a short message urging California DNC members to pledge their vote to Ben Wikler for DNC Chair. To help facilitate email messaging, here's a list of the California DNC members with readily available email addresses:
