We know Donald Trump has a strong disregard for the rule of law — after all, he is a convicted felon.

But his selection of Kash Patel for FBI Director is an alarming choice that poses even greater threats to our democracy.

Kash Patel is already laying out his plans to abuse the power that comes with leading the FBI.

He wants to go after people like journalists and community activists, who he believes are undermining the Republican Party. He’s promised to use his position to intimidate and attack Donald Trump’s political adversaries — regular people like you and me — who have rightfully called out the danger Trump poses to our democracy.

Leaders in our government should never be permitted to use their power to go after their political enemies — it’s anti-democratic and against what our country stands for.

john, I certainly look forward to hearing what Kash Patel has to say during his confirmation hearing. But based on everything he’s told us about himself and his stances, I am confident that Kash Patel is the wrong choice for FBI Director, and I hope my colleagues in the Senate vote to reject his nomination.
