Dear Neighbor,
It was great returning to the Capitol on Tuesday to perform the oath of office in the Minnesota House of Representatives as a member of the 94th Legislature.
This is an important session, particularly as we restore balance at the Capitol after two years of one-party control enacting reckless spending increases, unnecessary tax hikes and wildly extreme policy measures.
Regardless, House Republicans are at the Capitol, ready work, so we can have a fast start to the new session addressing the issues everyday Minnesotans care about most. I’m looking forward to serving as chair the House Energy Finance and Policy Committee this biennium as we evaluate policies of the state and assess the overall impacts on Minnesotans. I also will serve on Taxes, and Ways and Means this biennium.
As for overarching themes to help the people of our state, House Republicans have worked with citizens to establish a list of priorities for the 2025 legislative session. They include:
* Stop the Fraud
* Make Minnesota Affordable
* Make Minnesota Safe
* Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates
* Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans
* Build for the Future
*Stop the Fraud*
Rampant fraud and waste in Minnesota departments and programs, from Feeding our Future to childcare assistance, frontline worker pay, and DHS and the Department of Education, is costing Minnesota taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
A lack of accountability and careless accounting have taken hold in Minnesota’s agencies with Democrats in full control of the Capitol the last two years. This underscores how good it is Republicans have restored balance in St. Paul by ending the trifecta. We’ll demand more from our agencies, working to increase accountability and add more guardrails to protect taxpayers.
House Republicans are taking this issue seriously and are preparing a comprehensive package to root out fraud, including establishing a House committee to tackle this issue. Our plan will protect taxpayers and ensure program funding reaches its intended purposes.
