Dear Neighbor,
There’s been so much going on in St. Paul this week it’s hard knowing where to begin! Here we go:
The 2025 session started Tuesday and House Republicans arrived at the Capitol with our sleeves rolled up, ready to get started improving the future of our state. I’m incredibly humbled by the trust that has been placed in me by the people of District 13A and my colleagues in the House. As a proud Minnesotan, I’m committed to working for the people who sent us to the Capitol with a job to do. I am deeply honored to serve as Speaker of the House and look forward to working with all my colleagues in the House, the Senate, and Governor Walz to set our state on a better course.
While I'm disappointed Democrats failed to follow state law by refusing to show up for work, I'm confident we can still have a productive session. I hope House Democrats end their boycott soon because there are major issues to address in our state.
Meanwhile, House Republicans already are hard at work focusing on a list of priorities we share with Minnesotans for the 2025 legislative session, including:
- Stop the Fraud
- Make Minnesota Affordable
- Make Minnesota Safe
- Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates
- Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans
- Build for the Future
Budget year
Our biggest responsibility this session is to pass a new two-year state budget. The Legislature will use information from the upcoming February economic forecast as guidelines for the next biennium. Look for more details down the road but, in short, House Republicans will propose a responsible budget that makes life more affordable for families.
