"Michiganders encouraged to wear Honolulu Blue in a show of support" 

 

*LANSING, Mich. *– Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II proclaimed January 18 as Honolulu Blue Day in Michigan, celebrating the Detroit Lions’ exceptional 2024-25 season and rallying support as they kick off their playoff campaign.  

 

 “GRIT lies at the foundation of the Michigan spirit and drives the Detroit Lions, fueling us to dig deeper, push harder, rise above any challenge, and outplay any opponent, no matter their size or strength,” said* Governor Whitmer*. “I encourage every Michigander to join me in throwing on our Honolulu Blue and cheering on the Lions this Saturday. One Pride!” 

 

“As a lifelong Lions fan and a proud Detroiter, this moment everything to me. Growing up, I watched this team fight through every challenge, and seeing the Lions now at top of their game is inspiring to everyone across Michigan. This team represents resilience, determination, and the unbreakable spirit of our state,” added *Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II*.  

 

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the Detroit Lions will kick off their first game in the 2025 NFL Playoffs, facing off against the Washington Commanders. The Detroit Lions currently have a 15-2 record, clinched the #1 seed as NFC North Champions, and scored an impressive 493 points—setting a new franchise record for most points in a season. 

 

The Whitmer-Gilchrist administration is proud to recognize the Detroit Lions for their historic season and the inspiration they bring to communities all across Michigan. Their achievements reflect the resilience and determination of our state, uniting Michiganders in celebration and reminding us of the power of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance.
