This week, the Senate began confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth – an unqualified MAGA loyalist.

The hearings have exposed Hegseth’s troubling history: allegations of sexual assault, mistreatment of female colleagues, opposition to women serving in combat roles, and even criticism from his own mother.

Yet, Hegseth seems to believe none of this disqualifies him from overseeing the most powerful military in the world.

As a member of the Armed Services Committee representing Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Marilyn understands what’s at stake with this confirmation. We need a leader who puts the security of our nation and the well-being of our troops first.

We need to send a loud and clear message to the Senate: the American people expect to have a Secretary of Defense who is qualified for the position – not a political loyalist with a questionable record. One who refused to answer when asked if he would obey Trump’s orders to weaponize the military against the American people.
