Dear Friends,
I am committed to honoring our veterans’ service with action by ensuring they have access to the health care they need and the benefits they earned.
In December, I voted for bipartisan veterans’ health care and benefits improvement legislation that was recently signed into law by President Biden. This new law expands access to home health care for veterans so they can receive the care they need in the comfort of their homes as they age, instead of transferring to costly nursing facilities. It also includes the Love Lives on Act, a bill I cosponsored to allow surviving spouses who remarry at any age to retain their spousal benefits.
In 2022, we passed the PACT Act to expand VA health care eligibility and strengthen coverage for toxic-exposed veterans. Since it became law, 2 million claims have been submitted, nearly 6 million veterans have received new toxic exposure screenings, and over 840,000 new veterans have enrolled in health care through the VA.
The Department of Veterans Affairs expanded presumptive eligibility so veterans suffering from bladder cancer, leukemia, and other diseases will be able to immediately apply for benefits. You can learn more about eligibility and apply for benefits at VA.gov/PACT or call 800-698-2411.
No one should be denied access to reproductive health care because of who they are, including fertility treatments. Last week, I introduced the Veterans Infertility Treatment Act with Rep. Julia Brownley to ensure unmarried and LGBTQ+ veterans have the same access to treatments like IVF at the VA as straight, married couples.
