Dear friends,
Today, let us commit ourselves to giving collective memory to the many patriots who have laid down their lives for liberty. We can never repay the debt we owe them, but instead we have to honor their memory with action.
After I finished voting in Congress last week, I walked quietly around the World War 2 memorial. I read to my children the words of President Truman inscribed in stone.
“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”
For their ultimate sacrifice, we are all charged with safeguarding and upholding the democracy that they lost their lives defending. We are charged with doing everything we can to support our military and military families in Congress. That means strengthening our VA system, providing for Gold Star families, and ensuring there are civilian opportunities for members of the military after their service. That also means making sure that our National Guard has the resources they need as many take on the role of frontline workers during this global pandemic.
And we are charged with never forgetting the sacrifice of those who died for us to live. This Memorial Day, I hope you'll join me in taking a moment to remember those who put their lives down for our country and vow to never take our freedoms for granted. And if you can, find a way to give back.
May we all do our part to ensure their sacrifices were not made in vain.
Thank you,
Andy
