VoteVets

JOHN,

From administration to administration, there has always been partisan tension.

But there is one area where the parties have continued to set their differences aside and focus on what they can do together, in the interest of the entire country.

National Security.

That is not to say there has not been disagreement — there certainly has. And that is not to say this cooperation was always to our benefit — the Iraq War comes to mind. Nonetheless, congressional action on National Security has usually been approached in a good faith and bipartisan manner. Politics should stop at the water's edge.

That good faith and bipartisanship was shattered in the final two years of President Biden’s administration — when Tommy Tuberville blocked hundreds of senior flag officers from approval to their posts, and when the Republican conference at large stood by and enabled it. It did untold harm to our readiness, and it had a deep and negative impact on the Military at large. It was also a harbinger of things to come.

We’re seeing the next phase of this breakdown now — as Donald Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. Hegseth is the most unqualified, unserious, and outright dangerous nominee to this critical National Security position that we have ever seen. It is no exaggeration to say that this is truly unprecedented.

In past generations, Republicans would have balked at this nomination. Now, they are falling in line behind Trump’s pick.

As SECDEF, Hegseth intends to impose his radical far-right extremist agenda on the Military. He would enable the worst of Project 2025 — the purges of senior leadership deemed insufficiently loyal to Trump, their replacement with Trump fanatics, and the politicization of the force at large. And in his hearing on Tuesday, Hegseth would not commit to standing in the breach and opposing unconstitutional orders from Donald Trump.

This is about as bad as it gets.

VoteVets led the charge against Tuberville. Today, we are leading the charge against Hegseth. This is too important to ignore, and we need your help.

Please, if you’re in a position to contribute, make a donation to VoteVets as we work to spread the word about Pete Hegseth and prevent his confirmation as Secretary of Defense. It adds up fast when everyone is chipping in, and we’ll have more of an impact if we all come together.
