Folks,

Today is a day set aside to honor the men and women who have courageously given everything to keep us safe. It's a debt we can never repay, but we must do our best to speak their names, honor their memories, and work to make our nation worthy of their sacrifice.

As a military family, this is personal for us. We've spent so much time with the families who are the heart of our military--both those who wear a uniform and their loved ones, who serve in their own ways. And what we've learned is that there is no community with more grit, fortitude, and sense of duty.

It's through these families that the legacies of the fallen live on, long after Taps has been played and that flag has been folded. There is no uniform and no medal of honor for their sacrifice. That's why it's up to our nation to lift up this community and thank them for all that they've given as well.

For those of you who are missing the piece of your hearts that this Memorial Day commemorates, your sacrifice will never quite end. Yet, we hope there is comfort in knowing that there will come a day when the thought of the person you lost brings a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eye.

And we make this promise to you: to never forget, to tell their stories and yours, and to help you carry this burden, so that, together, we can build a nation that makes them proud.

The Bidens stand by you today, tomorrow, and always.

May God protect our troops,

Jill, Joe, and the Biden family
