On Memorial Day, we join with our fellow Americans to remember and honor the service members who gave their lives to protect our country and safeguard our democracy. Their sacrifice and bravery allow us the liberties we have today.

Today, we are reminded of the responsibility we all have to continue the work that others have fought and died for.

Connecticut’s 5th District has a proud history of support for our service members, veterans, and Gold Star families – a history written by those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. And while we cannot gather today at the annual Memorial Day parade and services, we honor them, today and every day.

The best way to honor our fallen heroes is to remember them, offer support to our Gold Star families, and work to ensure our government meets its obligations to those still serving, our veterans, and their families. Benefits, healthcare, employment, and support for our heroes should be a non-negotiable.

My heart goes out to all the families whose loved ones have given their lives for our country. Let’s make sure we all set aside some time to honor the sacrifices they have made to defend our right to live, pray, and love as we choose.

We will never forget.
