Hi John,

On Memorial Day and every day, we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice -- choosing to put service to our country before self. I hope you will take some time to reflect on our shared American values and recommit to the work that is still ahead of us to make our country a better place.

This is a somber day of reflection that will not feel the same as our country grapples with the uncertainty of this unprecedented pandemic. What we are reminded of are the values that bind us -- the values so many have died for -- that are holding our communities together right now. We must do what we can to put others first.

We see these selfless acts every day, a reminder that these values are the ripple that we continue to send into the world. Neighbors organizing blood drives to help their community in need. Health care workers on the frontlines, showing up to work every single day, risking their own health to save others.

These values are who we are.

To our service members reading this message, thank you for everything you have done for our country. It is a privilege to represent you in Congress.

I hope you take the time today to spend time with those you love, appreciate the freedoms we have, and reflect on how far we've come as we push forward, together.

With gratitude and deep appreciation,

Mary Gay
