Israel/Hamas Hostage Deal
We welcome the agreement that has been reached between Israel and Hamas to secure the release of 33 hostages who were inhumanely kidnapped and cruelly held captive by Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza since October 7, 2023. And yet all should remember — Hamas started this war with the horrific October 7 attacks, the most violent act of antisemitism since the Holocaust.

REPORT: Playing With Hate
[link removed]
A startling

new report on online gaming from the ADL Center for Technology & Society found that people who expressed pride in their identity through usernames were the targets of hate and harassment in almost half of online multiplayer game sessions tested with a range of religious, ethnic and national identity-based usernames. Examples of hate and harassment included racial slurs, trash-talking or disrupted play. The impact of this is widespread as six out of ten people (ages 5-90) in the U.S. play video games, according to the Entertainment Software Association, and there are over 3 billion players around the world.
“Hearing phrases such as ‘gas the Jews’, calling people the ‘n-word’ or seeing a player named Hitler is not inconsequential; it’s pure, unabashed hatred and gaming companies need to step up and make it stop,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.

NEW Global 100 Report: This week, ADL released its

new Global 100 report showing that nearly half of all adults worldwide hold elevated levels of antisemitic attitudes. The survey, conducted by ADL and coordinated with Ipsos and other research partners, included over 58,000 adults from 103 countries and territories. This report was widely reported in the press. As our CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said in an

pointed out to CNN that there is a worrying rise in the amount of historical distortion; as she explained, “We need people to recognize what happened in history so it will never repeat itself.”

As Wildfires Spread So Do Conspiracy Theories: As devastating wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, extremists and conspiracy theorists are seizing the opportunity to circulate familiar canards, blaming the blaze on common scapegoats such as diversity initiatives, Jews and nefarious government “false flags.” Officials believe the fires were actually primarily a result of drought conditions, high winds and the cumulative effects of climate change. Still, as they’ve done after other disasters, extremists and promoters of hate persist in spreading false narratives to target marginalized groups and sow distrust.

Making Progress With ADL
We want to highlight an

excerpt from Variety magazine, which notes that:
On Monday, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, took issue with a “60 Minutes” segment broadcast Sunday that examined opposition by former State Department officials to the Biden administration supporting Israel’s push against Hamas. Greenblatt called the segment “a biased and one-sided piece” in a statement, noting that “Even before this, CBS had a recent history of insensitivity on Jewish issues that was incredibly problematic.”
The article covers the actions CBS has now taken, including bringing in an interim “executive editor” who will oversee standards, helping to vet stories and journalistic practices.

Incredible story. A Torah rescued from ashes in Iran made its way to a synagogue in Pasadena, and was rescued again before the LA fires this week. This week, this resilient community will come together and read from this very Torah.

Another day, another synagogue defaced in Australia. Red swastikas were spray painted on the Newtown synagogue less than 24 hours after another Sydney synagogue was vandalized. These antisemitic acts have become relentless — and the authorities must be relentless in their pursuit of the perpetrators.
