Friend,

From our Nation’s founding, so many heroes whose names we will never know were
willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for future generations whose name they
would never know. Whether it was fighting for our independence, freeing our
nation from the bonds of slavery, or fighting totalitarianism and extremism
around the world, the unique quality of the American soldier is their
willingness to give up their lives so that the people and the Nation they love
might live free.

It is so important that we remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is a
day when our nation pauses, prays, and remembers the bravest among us. Our VFW
posts, American Legion posts, and Veteran Service Organizations throughout our
community serve and remember our heroes in uniform every day. So must we,
whether that’s pausing for a brief moment to pray for those who we’ve lost and
for the safety of those currently serving, to thanking a veteran whenever and
wherever you see them, to random acts of kindness for Gold Star Families.
Memorial Day is when we as a Nation stop, pause, pray and thank.

On this Memorial Day, please take a moment to think about its meaning. Think
of all of the conflicts that our soldiers have fought in throughout American
history. And think about how their sacrifice allowed you to be spending today
however you are choosing to spend it. For in remembering the true meaning of
Memorial Day, we will reignite the American spark within us, knowing that this
unique American grit and courage is built into our DNA and is exemplified by
the courage of our heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

May God bless each one of our military heroes and their families, today and
every day.
